Nominated MDC Bindo M. Lanong today said that he has decided to support the KHADC Executive Committee led by Pyniaid Sing Syiem.
Lanong took the decision today after the UDP totally ignored him.
It may be mentioned that UDP is in the opposition in the 30-member KHADC. The ruling coalition however includes the NPP and Congress.
Speaking to media persons here today, Lanong informed that he would formally submit a letter of support to the NPP-led KHADC executive committee tomorrow.
Stating that despite being one of the founders of the UDP he was not even invited to the UDP general council meeting, Lanong said, “I neither get any invitation, phone call nor even a text message from my party.”
Lanong said that in April he had sent a letter to UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh and party general secretary Jemino Mawthoh apologising for what had happened in the last Assembly election and also requesting them to consider him for party ticket for the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Shillong seat considering his vast political experiences.
He however said that he never received any response or even an acknowledgment of the letter he had sent in April on the matter.
“Then in June, I wrote again to request ticket for the MP election from the UDP but again there was no response or acknowledgment despite the letter delivered at the residence of Metbah Lyngdoh and Jemino Mawthoh,” Lanong said.
He also informed that he wrote another letter again to the party leadership in August informing that he has withdrawn his plea for party ticket since there was no acknowledgment at all from the party on his previous letters “but they did not respond on this as well.”
“This means that it was not me who left the UDP but it is them who no longer recognise me anymore since they did not even invite me to the party’s general council,” Lanong added.
He said that the way he was being treated by the UDP president and general secretary only showed that he is an independent member now and he can support anyone he wants to.
He also clarified that since the Anti-Defection Law does not apply to the district council he can support anyone.
Lanong said that it was former UDP president Dr. Donkupar Roy who appointed him as the nominated MDC in KHADC and not the present UDP leadership.
According to him, had the UDP leadership allotted the party ticket to a UDP member in the last Assembly election he would have supported the candidate and not go against it.
“But they allotted the party ticket to an outsider Lambor Malngiang,” he said.
“Let the people judge the present UDP leadership and the kind of treatment they are giving to one of the founders of the party,” Lanong added.
