Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today assured the house that he will be the first to take steps in any case of threat to the Meghalaya living in the border areas.
Replying to a motion on border areas development he said, “Let me take this opportunity to tell all the members who are staying in the area of differences that if there is ever a situation in your constituency where our people living in the border areas are facing challenges or any threat to their safety and security, I will be the first person to take a step to be able to protect them. Please feel free to contact me directly.”
He acknowledged that legislators representing the border areas have been doing their bid to ensure the safety of the people. The chief minister said it was important for him to mention in house that “we will not shy away to protect the safety and security of our people in the border areas.”
Informing that adequate manpower for the border outpost has been sanctioned he also said sanction has also been made for infrastructure for the BOP.
Wherever the construction has not started, he said it is an issue of availability of land or consensus on the location where the particular BOP should be located, and is working on it.
He also said that in the Mukroh area, there is a small issue for the villagers who wanted the BOP in a specific area, and the government is working out where they will be able to do it, keeping in mind not to disturb the overall aspect of safety and security.
Relating to the border hats, he said that border hats have started reopening in most parts of the state, and normalcy is returning.
He further stated that the different schemes related to the border area development, especially the one under the state budget, will ensure more funds for it and that funds are released at the earliest.
