There are upwards of 300 vacant posts at various levels in the Meghalaya Secretariat, a Right to Information (RTI) request has found.
The RTI was filed by activist Disparsing Rani. Official answers revealed that there are 328 posts currently unfilled.
These include 253 at the Grade 2 and 3 levels and 73 in Grade 4.
Rani questioned why the government had not filled posts yet.
The biggest chunk of vacancies can be found in the role of Lower Division Assistant (LDA). There are 390 sanctioned posts in this role but only 269 are filled, leaving vacancies in 121.
Similarly, out of 185 sanctioned typists, there are 90 vacancies (almost 50 percent), while less than one-third of the sanctioned posts for stenographer (13 out of 42) are filled.
Almost all of the positions for peon are filled, though, with just 25 vacancies out of 392 sanctioned posts.
The RTI also covered lower ranks, like jamedar, duftries, cleaners, sweepers, watchmen and gardeners, all of which also contain vacancies.
