Shillong, Aug 28: Meghalaya recorded more than 5,400 VIP and VVIP visits and “movements” within the state, many involving visitors from Delhi from the end of the previous financial year up to this month.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told the Assembly today that the list includes visits by the President and Vice-President, Prime Minister, Union Ministers, Governors, Chief Ministers, state ministers, High Court judges and senior officials.
The Meghalaya government bears the expenditure associated with these movements, Tynsong said, explaining that this formed part of the reason for the supplementary demand for extra funds.
Security arrangements for such movements are governed by the Blue Book and Yellow Book. Tynsong said the state has also introduced its own standard operating procedures (SOPs) for VIP movements in Meghalaya to regulate the use of sirens, etc.
