Police in West Garo Hills secured a massive drugs haul in an anti-narcotics operation conducted on the intervening night of June 3-4.
A search was conducted on the house of a suspected drug peddler named Aziar Mondol of Rajpur, Phulbari. During the raid, narcotics and psychotropic substances of different types were recovered and seized.
These amounted to 2.5kg of cannabis, 4.5g of heroin, 620 yaba (methamphetamine) tablets, 39 tablets of Tramadol (opioid pain medication) and 29 tablets of Nitrazepam (benzodiazepine).
In addition, 10 empty heroin boxes, 12 packets of rolling paper, 450 empty vials, Rs 67,840 in cash, nine mobile phones, 10 lighters and one motorbike were also seized.
Mondol (44) was arrested along with three others – Ziadur Mondol (25), Riazul Mondol (20) and Zobeda Bibi (35).
“It is highly suspected that the above mentioned drug peddlers were sourcing drugs from distributors based in neighbouring states and have accumulated a lot of wealth by peddling drugs,” WGH Superintendent of Police Vivekananda Singh Rathore said in a press release. “A cognizable case is being registered at Phulbari police station and forward/backward linkages are being traced. Investigation is on.”
