The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister calling for age relaxation in the police service.
The pressure group wants the eligibility age of new recruits raised.
However, while the state government has previously relaxed age categories for various government posts, certain others, like in the police, were not raised as it was felt that older recruits would not be able to keep up with the physical demands required of certain jobs.
HITO called for a special exemption as the hiring process for the current batch of new recruits had been disrupted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
As per a recent advertisement, there are nearly 3,000 vacancies in the police service.
“It will be much appreciated and beneficial if your government considers raising the eligibility age for aspirants,” HITO told the CM.
