The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) today lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer against the National People’s Party (NPP), accusing its workers of misleading the public by disseminating misinformation about the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana –Gramin (PMAY-G) scheme.
The organisation claimed that the misinformation violated the model code of conduct.
According to HITO, party workers of the NPP in the West Jaintia Hills district have been going around stating that the centrally sponsored scheme requires approval from local MLAs.
“This assertion is not only inaccurate but also a gross misunderstanding of the scheme, which is designed to be centrally funded and directed by the Government of India to ensure housing for all in rural areas,” HITO president Donbok Dkhar said.
He said that such misleading information poses a serious risk to public trust and can adversely affect the beneficiaries who are reliant on these government schemes for their housing needs.
While it is imperative to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and that the public is provided with accurate and truthful information, HITO has urged the CEO to investigate and take appropriate action against such statements.
