Shillong, Oct 16: The Hima Langrin has demanded fresh elections to elect a full-fledged Syiem.
A delegation from the Hima today met with the KHADC Executive Member (EM) in-charge Elaka Danzil Chen with the demand.
The Hima has been functioning under an acting Syiem, Brilian Henry Syiemiong, for more than two years.
Expressing concern that the current arrangement has hindered the smooth functioning of the Hima, Faindness Syiemiong told reporters that residents can no longer rely on the suspended Syiem, Nongtei Sing Syiemiong and desire for a fresh election.
The KHADC had suspended Nongtei based on allegations of corruption.
Faindness informed that the EM has assured that an order will be issued after the autumn session this year.
The demand for fresh elections is backed by a significant majority of the voters in the Hima. Faindness claimed that out of 1,600 voters, around 1,000 have expressed support for a new Syiem, highlighting the growing discontent among the residents.
The people of Hima Langrin are hopeful that the KHADC will take their demand seriously and initiate the process for fresh elections to ensure the smooth administration of the Hima.
