Volunteers of the Non-Violent Direct Action (NVDA), who fought in the Hill State Movement, were felicitated today.
The volunteers were A.S Mawlong, Sharai Nongbri, Trueman Lyngdoh and Augustin Marbaniang.
They were felicitated by the family of Late Eric Bremley Lyngdoh along with the office of the Chief Minister and the band Summersalt and the Meghalaya Model United Nations (MMUN).
Director of Arts and Culture, Frederick Kharkongor who was present at the felicitation programme said that the group led by Eric Bremly Lyngdoh was apolitical which fought for the Hill State.
He said Meghalaya achieved statehood without a single drop of blood compared to other violent movement in the region, but the volunteers composed songs, wrote poetries which touched the hearts of the public at that time.
“The non-violent movement seeks justice and reconciliation and the cause is best served through the path of righteousness,” he said.
