Shillong, May 12: The HID Foundation, Shillong has urged the government to address the challenges associated with capitation fees in educational institutions by speeding up establishment of the Meghalaya Admission and Fee Regulatory Commission.
In a follow up to its earlier memorandum submitted on April 24, the organisation in a letter to Commissioner & Secretary Vijay Kumar Mantri yesterday reiterated its demand that the state enacts the Meghalaya Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Prohibition of Capitation Fee) Act, 2026 to ensure that all educational institutions, both public and private, adhere to fair fee structures.
Additionally, the establishment of the commission would serve as a means to oversee and regulate admissions, thereby promoting equitable access to quality education throughout Meghalaya, it said.
The organisation has appealed to parents and the general public to back the demand for equal and affordable education.
