Health Minister AL Hek met Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan in New Delhi today.
During their discussion, Hek submitted a proposal for further funds to fight the Covid-19 pandemic as well as another request for funds for the National Health Mission, including a release of existing monies for the 2020-21 financial year.
Hek informed that the duo had a wide-ranging discussion on strengthening the healthcare system in Meghalaya and the need for support by the central government. Vardhan was reportedly receptive to the ideas and proposals put forward by the Meghalaya minister and assured of his help.
Hek also said that the Union Minister was happy to see that the state had been able to maintain a relatively low number of Covid cases, with fatalities also lower than the national average.
Meanwhile, Development of North East Region (DoNER) Minister Jitendra Singh assured of smooth funding for a state of the art diagnostic centre in Shillong, which will be set up at a cost of Rs 20 crore, all of it centrally funded.
