Cabinet minister AL Hek today reiterated his readiness to lead the state Bharatiya Janata Party in a renewal of a challenge to the incumbent, Ernest Mawrie.
Mawrie had earlier hinted that a show-cause notice would be served against Hek who had stated that there is a need for a change in the party leadership.
Despite the BJP courting Meghalaya voters extensively in the recent Assembly election, the saffron outfit was unable to increase the number of seats it won; Hek, from Pynthorumkhrah, and South Shillong’s Sanbor Shullai remain the BJP’s only two MLAs.
Hek had also stated that he was ready to take up the responsibility of the Meghalaya BJP if the central leadership wished so.
Pointing out that there seems to be different factions supporting him and Mawrie, Hek said, “The BJP is a political party. Our job is to do good politics working for the people and the state. We are there together all the time. Discussions about the progress of the party go on and there is no internal bickering or factions.”
Talking about the show-cause notice, Hek said it is nothing but a routine matter but he hinted that he was only speaking about the welfare of the party.
