Indian Oil Corporation’s (IOC) gas company Indane today launched new composite gas cylinders dubbed the ‘smart cylinder of smart kitchens’ in Shillong.
The composite cylinder is made of a high density polyethylene (HDPE) inner layer. This means that the cylinders are considerably lighter in weight even when full. The difference, though, is that the maximum composite cylinder has 10kg of LPG, while the typical red metal ones that consumers are more used to typically has 14kg of pressurised gas. So, although you might have to replace the cylinder sooner, doing so will not be so much of a pain as they are easier to lift, which would be a boon for the elderly and anyone who finds the task a difficulty.
The other feature that Indane is touting is that the cylinder is covered with a composite layer of polymer-wrapped fiber glass and fitted with a HDPE outer jacket. The translucent nature of it means that consumers can visually see how much gas (in the form of a liquid) is left in it.
