Deputy Chief Minister and State NPP president Prestone Tynsong today said that the ongoing Lok Sabha election campaign in Khasi and Jaintia Hills region has generated a lot of heat. He attributed this heated poll campaign to the presence of the Voice of the People Party (VPP).
“This election has generated a lot of heat. The cause of this heat is due to one reason – the emergence of a new party, the VPP,” Tynsong said at an election rally of the NPP at Iaw Pynsin in Wahiajer under West Jaintia Hills.
“The heat of this election is so high,” he said even as he attacked the VPP for “having no agenda”.
“As compared to the old parties like UDP, HSPDP, Congress, BJP and NPP, this party led by Ardent Basaiawmoit has no agenda. The only agenda they have is claiming that they are the only clean party. Other parties are bad infront of them,” Tynsong said.
The deputy chief minister also said that the wave created by the VPP was “like a tsunami” which will not last.
However, VPP legislator Adelbert Nongrum rejected the charges made by Tynsong that the VPP wave was a tsunami.
Nongrum was addressing an election campaign of the VPP at Pynursla, the home constituency of Tynsong.
“This is not a tsunami. This is a wind of change,” the MLA from North Shillong constituency said.
Slamming the NPP, UDP and other parties for making personal attacks on VPP president Ardent M. Basaiawmoit during the entire election campaign, Nongrum said, “The more attacks they made on our president, the more goals our candidate Dr. Ricky Syngkon is scoring.”
