Shillong, Oct 27: The Meghalaya High Court has asked the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) to submit a report detailing the eligibility of 122 street vendors selected for availing the Meghalaya Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Protection of Street Vending) Rules 2022.
In an order passed today, the division bench of Chief Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh accepted the miscellaneous PIL filed by the SMB seeking modification of the earlier order of the High Court passed on July 29, 2025.
In the miscellaneous PIL, the SMB clarified that the 48 vendors described in the earlier court order have already been included in the list of 122 surveyed vendors out of which 22 have been found eligible for the scheme.
In addition to the 22 vendors, 48 others have submitted their applications for availing the scheme and the matter is being examined by the SMB.
The SMB in the miscellaneous PIL also stated that any other vendors who wished to avail the scheme can approach the Town Vending Committee along with proper documents.
The matter will be taken up by the High Court at the next hearing slated for November 25.
