The Meghalaya High Court has granted more time for the petitioners to point out lacunae in a report submitted by the State government on steps taken to relocate street vendors.
The report submitted to the court in March contains policies, plans and proposals to relocate street vendors and regulation of traffic and street movement to make the capital of Meghalaya-Shillong region, a modern, clean and well administered city.
On May 8, 2025, the court had taken on record the report by the government and the petitioners were given an opportunity to file a response to the report through an affidavit by May 15, 2025.
A division bench of the Meghalaya High Court consisting of Chief Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Philip Khrawbok Shati and Andrew Aibok Jyrwa today said, We only observe that if the petitioner had any grievance with regard to any policy or plan or implementation of the plan by the government, the response ought to have come by today.”
The court said the affidavit has not been filed which shows that the petitioner has got nothing much to say with regard to the action taken.
The Court has given the petitioners time till June 2, 2025 to file their affidavit.
The next hearing is scheduled for June 12, 2025.
