Dr. Bashida Massar of Lapalang village under Pynursla constituency who came along others villagers of the area to support the hunger strike staged by VPP president Ardent M. Basaiawmoit today said that the people of her constituency had expected their MLA and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong to support the cause.
“We don’t want to condemn him but he is also a Khasi like us. Since this is a common cause for all the Khasi-Jaintia people, we had expected that he would speak something in support of this issue but sadly he did not,” she said.
Massar also said she was also a victim of the flaws of the job reservation policy whereby in 2000 she was supposed to be appointed as a lecturer at Tura Government College after she secured the second rank but the post was given to a Garo who was behind her ranking.
“When I inquired why I lost the post they told me it was because of the reservation policy,” she said, stressing the importance of reviewing the 50-year-old policy.
