The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has agreed to be part of the reconstituted committee to discuss the job reservation policy and roster system
Announcing this today, VPP MLA from Mawlai, Brightstarwell Marbaniang said a delegation of the party will attend the first meeting of the reconstituted committee tomorrow.
Marbaniang also informed that VPP president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit will continue with his indefinite hunger strike till the demand for review of the job reservation policy is addressed.
Meanwhile, Basaiawmoit today told the crowd that he would not quit his fast till the quota policy is reviewed.
“I will not leave this place till the demand is met,” he said much to the cheer of the massive crowd at his fast venue.
It may be mentioned that Basaiawmoit’s hunger strike entered the eighth day today.
Basaiawmoit also alleged that the State government wanted anarchy to happen so that the fight for review of the job reservation policy led by the VPP gets defeated.
Thanking the people for extending solidarity with his hunger strike, Basaiawmoit however urged them not to fall to any trap of indulging in violence.
“The government will be happy if there is violence. Don’t fall into such a trap. We want this movement to be peaceful so that we can achieve the goal. Let’s not have any confrontation with the government,” he said.
Meanwhile, hundreds of students who joined the rally organised by the education cell of HYC also came to the fast venue to express support to Basaiawmoit.
