The Meghalaya State Skills Development Society today inaugurated the MSSDS Haat Bazaar on the premises of the State Central Library here.
Chief Secretary Rebecca V Suchiang attended the programme as the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Suchiang quoted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that skill development is the national need today and it is a foundation for Aatmanirbhar (self-reliant) India.
The Haat Bazaar is a platform for entrepreneurs to showcase their products and produce and she hoped that it will inspire others to come forward and take up this initiative of the government.
The Chief Secretary added that the government is committed to improve the employability of youths and had recently launched Skills Meghalaya, under the Skills India scheme, with the aim to encourage startups, to empower the youth, to give them requisite learning, a secure future and to give them the right skills. It also aims for a robust MSME (micro, small and medium enterprise) sector, which is the backbone of the economy of the country.
