The State government has listed schemes to address unemployment in Meghalaya, which it said are alternatives to traditional jobs.
According to the government, the initiatives that are in place to support self-employment and entrepreneurship are the CM-Elevate, PRIME Programme, FOCUS+, Mission Mode Programs in Agriculture and allied Sectors.
The others are Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project, Meghalaya Tourism Homestay Scheme, Skills Meghalaya, Hello Meghalaya OTT Platform, Meghalaya Ateliers Programme, CM FARM+, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU – GKY).
According to the government it plans to support Small and Medium Enterprises in hiring more workers, under CM Elevate and. PRIME Programme, both loans and grants are available for MSMEs and startups to expand their business and hire more people.
Other programmes include Raising & Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Scheme, Micro and Small Enterprise Cluster Development Programme (MSE CDP) and PM Vishwakarma Scheme.
Government sources also stated that there are universal Social Security Schemes that provide to support individuals including youth and these includes FOCUS+, CM-CARE including National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP).
The Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project is the only urban focused scheme, while all the others are programmes to support employment for marginalised communities and disadvantaged groups.
