The Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Phulbari regional unit has refuted claims of elections to the various posts being held stating that the terms of the leaders were recently renewed and no call for fresh elections has been made.
The refuting of the claim comes after an announcement made in a local daily wherein a call for elections was made for Phulbari regional unit by the zonal leaders of GSU – Western Range (North) – Dadenggre.
In a press statement, the regional unit stated that since the formation of the Western Zone (West – Raksamgre), the unit was merged with it.
“There is no question of the term of the GSU – Phulbari being over and no call has been made for fresh elections. The Dadenggre Zone has no right to call for fresh elections. The zonal leaders must know about the current leaders even if they are not part of the zone,” said Nyezer Chuang Marak, the unit’s general secretary.
The GSU – Phulbari stated that the extension of the term of the current members had been approved by the GSU – CEC, headquartered at Tura.
