The Garo Students Union (GSU) has delivered an ultimatum to North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Vice-Chancellor Prof PS Shukla, demanding the appointment of a new Pro-VC for the university’s Tura campus within seven days, failing which it will hold indefinite agitations.
The GSU and Post Graduate Students Union (Tura) wrote to Shukla of their “disappointment” against the non-fulfilment of various demands, chief of which is the issue of new Pro-VC.
The pressure group reminded Shukla that, in their last meeting, the VC had “assured, promised and given your word” that a new Pro-VC would be appointed “as soon as possible”.
However, Shukla has taken the GSU “for a ride with your false assurance and lip service”, accusing him of also having no intention of following up on the promises.
The GSU and postgraduate students’ union has thus decided on a seven-day ultimatum, failing which they will launch indefinite agitations.
