A pilot green tourism initiative, EcoNest, will be launched on Wednesday on the occasion of World Tourism Day.
Collaborating on the project are the state government, Smart Village Movement, University of California and Shillong Bamboo.
Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh will inaugurate EcoNest following a tourism conference organised by Outlook.
EcoNest touts itself for using renewable materials in the construction of the tourist lodgings through the use of “sustainable agrifiber” board construction made out of waste rice and wheat straw and utilising Meghalaya’s bamboo resources for furniture.
