The state government is going to replace rusted electric poles and conductors across Meghalaya soon to ensure safety of the citizenry.
Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal said yesterday that replacement of electric poles is a continuous process and wherever the situation demands, the department would replace the electric poles and even aerial bundled conductors.
Recently, an elephant was also electrocuted near the Assam-Meghalaya border in Ri-Bhoi. Reacting to unsafe hanging of wires, the minister said that whenever such incidents are reported, the government immediately takes action.
Meanwhile, Mondal also promised that there will be no load shedding in the state for the foreseeable future as Meghalaya is in a comfortable position in terms of electricity generation, especially with the arrival of the monsoon.
