The Meghalaya government has instructed the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner to pursue landowners further in order to get the land required for the Shillong-Dawki road project.
This was informed today by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who is also Public Works Department (Roads) Minister. Tynsong held a review meeting with concerned departments to discuss the progress of work of several road projects around the state.
On the Shillong-Dawki project, a few landowners are unwilling to accept the compensation, he informed. Hence he has instructed the DC to pursue this matter and convince the owners to accept the compensation at the earliest so that the land can be handed over to National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL).
There are approximately 40 to 50 landowners not willing to part with their land or who have not accepted the compensation offered.
The meeting also dwelt on the progress of the Shillong-Dawki Road, Nongstoin-Rambrai-Kyrsai road and the progress of the Ranikor-Baghmara road.
He said that in the review meeting several issues were brought to light that are faced either by the forest and PHE Department for shifting of utility or sometimes it happens to be with MeECL for shifting electric poles.
“Now we have resolved that and have instructed that any of these discrepancies in all this work should be completed or resolved by the end of November,” said Tynsong.
