The High Level Committee (HLC) of the State government will meet shortly to decide on the request for time by the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) on relocation from Them Ïew Mawlong here.
Sources in the government said that the request by the HPC would be discussed in the coming days at the HLC meeting to be chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.
It may be mentioned that the 15-day deadline for the HPC to give its final decision for the proposed relocation had ended yesterday.
The HPC which wanted further deliberations with other Sikh bodies on the matter had also requested for postponing the final meeting to the first week of September.
Recently, both the State government and HPC have in principle agreed for relocation of the 342 Sikh families from Them Ïew Mawlong to the Shillong Municipal Board’s land at Bishop Cotton Road here.
