The Meghalaya government is examining the possibility of increasing the ex gratia compensation given to the next of kin of the victims of the Mukroh Massacre.
The state government had presented cheques of Rs 5 lakh to each of the families of the five Meghalayan who were shot dead by the Assam police in last month’s incident.
Today, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the Political Department has been directed to examine the possibility of providing government jobs to a family member of each of the deceased.
Reacting to the criticism made by the Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, who said that the Meghalaya government has done nothing for the Mukroh families, Tynsong said that the Home Minister and Chief Minister have already visited the village, met with families and assured that action will be taken.
Tynsong added that the government also took care of all the medical expenses of those injured in the firing.
