In line with the central government’s ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ programme, which aims to enhance interaction and promote mutual understanding between people of different states and Union territories, the Foundation Days of Goa and Telangana were celebrated today at Raj Bhavan here.
To mark the occasion, a cultural evening was organised wherein the Air Marshal of Eastern Air Command, SP Dharkar, graced the occasion as the chief guest in the presence of Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor, BDR Tiwari.
Addressing the gathering, the Air Marshal lauded the initiative to celebrate the Foundation Days of various states, which he opined will go a long way in creating better integration and understanding of each other’s languages, customs and culture.
Tiwari gave a brief insight on the history of Goa and Telangana while highlighting their strengths and achievements.
The evening showcased the rich cultural tapestry of Meghalaya presented through the Shad Shoh Kba, or the harvest dance of the Jaintias, Bharatnatyam dances presented by Geetanjali Dance Academy and a musical performance by the Sur Nongkyndong Orchestra.
The programme was organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Shillong in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture.
The programme was attended by senior officials of the state and central governments as well as representatives of Goa and Telegana residing in Meghalaya.
