With campaigning for the upcoming elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) proceeding apace, the Election Commission announced today that the Model Code of Conduct will come into force from March 8.
According to a memo sent to all districts in Garo Hills from the District Council Affairs Department, the code will be applicable in all areas under the jurisdiction of the council.
Meanwhile the Congress has taken a head start in terms of announcing candidates for all 29 seats to the GHADC. They have been joined by the Nationalist Congress Party and Garo National Council, who have announced the names of a few candidates. All eyes are now focused on the National People’s Party, which is yet to make any announcement. The Bharatiya Janata Party has also not declared their candidates but is expected to do so in the coming days.
