Districts in Garo Hills region have performed commendably in terms of Aadhaar seeding of pregnant and lactating women and infants and children from 0-6 years in the State.
This was informed by the Social Welfare Department in an official statement issued today.
Three districts from Garo Hills have breached 95 per cent Aadhaar saturation mark and two are in and around 90 per cent. Jaintia Hills districts and Ri-Bhoi have also done well.
According to the data provided, West Khasi Hills district has the lowest Aadhaar saturation with 34.99 per cent, South West Khasi Hills 56.28 per cent and East Khasi Hills 69.85 per cent.
East Jaiñtia Hills districts recorded 89.65 per cent, West Jaiñtia Hills at 80.14 per cent and Ri Bhoi at 84.68 per cent.
The total State Aadhaar seeded ICDS beneficiaries are now 78.21 per cent out of 4.45 lakh total beneficiaries.
Alarmed at the prospect of cutting down of Supplementary Nutrition Programme allocation to only 10 per cent by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, due to the poor Aadhaar seeding of pregnant and lactating women and infants and children from 0-6 years in the State, the Social Welfare Department launched an Aadhaar saturation campaign to enrol and seed all eligible beneficiaries whose Aadhar seeding would reflected in the POSHAN tracker and who would receive Supplementary Nutrition in Anganwadi Centres.
“The campaign which was launched less than a month ago has achieved spectacular results with Meghalaya’s figures of Aadhar seeded beneficiaries rising from 13 per cent from the start of the campaign to 78.21 per cent as of today,” the department said.
The Social Welfare Department has congratulated all Deputy Commissioners and Social Welfare Department officers, District Programme Officers of ICDS, Child Development Project Officers, Anganwadi workers and helpers for putting in remarkable efforts in this campaign which had a clarion call “No Aadhar Saturation, No Rest”.
Principal Secretary (Social Welfare) Sampath Kumar has assured that all special efforts will be acknowledged and rewarded.
