MLAs in Garo Hills are taking credit for central government schemes, passing them off as their own initiative, Tura MDC and state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vice-president Bernard Marak said today.
Marak met with Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister Alexander Laloo Hek, who is the BJP’s only cabinet minister, today.
In the meeting he discussed with Hek about the government’s poultry and piggery missions. He also accused MLAs in Garo Hills of claiming central schemes to be party and MLA schemes while distributing them to the public.
“This project was sanctioned by the Centre and was supposed to presuppose beneficiaries in the villages but when we enquired in the veterinary office all the forms were taken by MLAs in Garo Hills and they were distributing them, claiming it to be an MLA or party scheme,” Marak said.
Stating that the minister was not aware of what was happening in Garo Hills, Marak added, “We briefed the minister and he has assured that eligible beneficiaries will get all support from the government.”
Marak assumes that such things are also going on in some parts of the Khasi-Jaintia Hills.
