World Malaria Day was observed at Harikel English School under Dalupara Sub Centre, Garobadha PHC, under Rerapara block yesterday.
The programme focused on raising awareness about malaria, Japanese encephalitis (JE), tuberculosis (TB), leprosy and other communicable diseases.
As part of the day’s activities, drawing and quiz competitions were organised for school children and the winners were felicitated with prizes by the chief guest, Block Development Officer of Rerapara, A Ch Momin.
A special highlight of the event was a powerful testimonial delivered by a TB warrior, inspiring attendees with a real-life story of resilience.
The chief guest also awarded the TB-Free Village titles to Dalupara and Asnaggre, recognising their successful efforts in eradicating tuberculosis.
Dr Lydia Marak, District Malaria Officer, addressed the gathering and highlighted the significant decline in malaria cases in the region. However, she stressed the importance of continued vigilance, testing of all fever cases, and proactive prevention efforts, especially during the monsoon season.
