Veteran politician and former cabinet minister D Plaslanding Ïangjuh passed away today after a prolonged age related illness.
Ïangjuh represented Mawsynram constituency twice.
He was first elected as MLA in 1998 and was reelected in 2003.
He was also elected as the MDC of Mawsynram in 1984 and 2004.
Ïangjuh was among the seven UDP MLAs who toppled the E K Mawlong government in December 2002 over the Meghalaya House Kolkata lease controversy.
He was also among the founders of the Meghalaya Democratic Party (MDP) which broke away from the UDP in 2002.
Ïangjuh was among the four MLAs of the MDP who won the Assembly elections in 2003.
The MDP supported the D D Lapang led Congress government and Ïangjuh was made a minister.
The mortal remains of the 85-year-old leader will be laid to rest on September 1 at the Laitumkhrah Presbyterian Church cemetery at Lawjynriew.
Ïangjuh leaves behind his son Manhiam Marbañiang, a Superintending Engineer in the State Public Works Department.
