Jowai, Nov 24: A Congress Party MDC has called for the removal of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Thombor Shiwat over the body’s financial distress.
The council is controlled by the National People’s Party (NPP), with the Congress and VPP in opposition.
Amwi Khliehtyrshi MDC Madonbai Rymbai, a former CEM, has urged NPP leaders to replace Shiwat due to the ongoing salary crisis, which has left council employees without pay for nine months.
Rymbai criticised Shiwat’s leadership, stating that the council’s revenue of Rs 85 crore should be sufficient to cover salaries and the prolonged delay is likely due to Shiwat’s weakness as a leader.
He emphasised that Jaintia Hills is rich in mineral resources, with cement plants operating daily and the council should be able to manage its finances effectively.
The JHADC recently held its winter session. The opposition criticised the executive committee as the session was wrapped up in a single day – November 20. The summer session was also held for only one day in July.
