In view of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, West Jaintia Hills District Magistrate has passed an order under Section 163 BNNS prohibiting the sale, purchase and procurement of foreign made firecrackers, the use of series crackers or laris to ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of citizens.
The order also prohibited use of fire-crackers generating noise level exceeding 125dB (A1) at four meters distance from the point of bursting and bursting of fire-crackers within 100 meters of hospitals, healthcare centres, religious places, educational institutions, etc and other areas which may have been declared as silent zone by the concerned authorities.
According to the order, the firecrackers which have been permitted will be sold only through the licensed traders and the bursting of firecrackers will be allowed from 11:55 pm to 12:30 am.
