An under-construction bridge at Moolichah village in Khliehmuchut under West Jaiñtia Hills district collapsed yesterday.
However, there were no reports of injuries as the construction workers were not present at the site, being a Sunday.
The footbridge was being built across a fish sanctuary at the village under a project of the Soil and Water Conservation department. Sources said the construction work was executed by one Patrick Lamare.
Meanwhile, the Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation has lodged an FIR under prevention of corruption Act 1988.
“The footbridge collapse at Moolichah was due to negligence of the concern implementing authority,” HITO said in the FIR lodge at Raliang police outpost today. It said that the incident happened because of the incompetency of the department in execution of the work in accordance with the estimated plan and sanction.
