Three more people have been arrested in connection with Sunday’s attempt to transport heroin into Meghalaya.
It was on that day that two women – Hoihoi Hanhal (35) and Lhing Hohoi (40) – were arrested in East Jaiñtia Hills while proceeding from Silchar to Shillong by Sumo. They were found with 197.35g of heroin in containers strapped to their bodies.
On the same day, a police team proceeded to Shillong and arrested another woman, Ngai Rami (28) alias Nano, who was meant to receive the consignment at her rented home in Nongmensong.
During interrogation, Rami revealed the names of two suppliers of the drugs and a police team from Khliehriat travelled to Shillong yesterday to arrest them. They were identified as Khailen Haokip (42) and Lheineihoi Haokip (40). The duo was taken to Khliehriat for necessary legal action.
All five people arrested in the case so far hail from Manipur.
