The Garo Hills zone of the Federation of Khasi, Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP) has written to the Head Postmaster in Tura to complain about the state of the Dakopgre post office.
Pritam Arengh, president of the FKJGP’s zonal unit, had received a phone call from the post office earlier this month telling him that a parcel was waiting for collection. On asking why it was not delivered to his home, he was reportedly told that there was no postman. A few days later he went to collect it but was then told by staff there that it had been returned since he was “late” to collect the parcel.
“The incompetent actions of the employees of Dakopgre post office is unacceptable in a civilised functioning society,” Arengh said.
On making his own inquiries, Arengh said that other residents of the Dakopgre area have had similar experiences.
He questioned how a post office like this could operate without a postman or whether the employees are shirking their duty.
