The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) Khliehriat circle along with FKJGP-Jaintia zone on Saturday conducted checking for Trading Licence, Labour Licence in Ladrymbai and Dkhiah West, East Jaintia Hills district.
According to the pressure group, from time to time they have been writing to the Jaintia Hills autonomous District Council (JHADC) urging it to conduct checking since they are the authority to do so.
“However the council are not proactive and today we have taken upon ourselves to conduct the checking,” Michal Chyrmang president of the FKJGP-Khliehriat circle said.
Chyrmang informed that during the checking on Saturday, the pressure groups found out that many shops owned by non-tribals do not have Trading Licence or Labour licence.
He also said that even Teer Counters do not have the necessary permission from the authorities to operate.
The FKJGP Khliehriat circle have given two weeks’ time to the non-tribal businesses to obtain Trading Licence and Labour Licence from appropriate authorities failing which they will be forced to close them down.
The FKJGP Khliehriat circle has also expressed concern over the random issuance of Trading Licence to non-tribals despite the locals being competent to own such businesses.
It also urged the JHADC to stop issuing Trading Licence to non-tribals to uplift the businesses of the indigenous people.
