The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), East Jaintia Hills district unit led by president Deihok Sumer, vice president, Welking Swer, information secretary, Michael Chyrmang today met, Dr. Alwin Lakiang Medical Superintendent of Khliehriat Civil Hospital.
During the meeting, many issues were discussed between members of the FKJGP and the authorities of Khliehriat Civil Hospital.
The members of the pressure group expressed surprise that although the Khliehriat Civil Hospital was built for 100 beds, only 65 are working.
The FKJGP members also found out that there is shortage of manpower, like specialist doctors, quarters, poor parking facilities and there are no Machine Ultrasound, ECG, MRI and CT scan.
The Medical Superintendent informed the FKJGP members that even if there are sufficient staff, there is no quarter to provide them.
“Even the office of the District Medical and Health Officer is located inside the compound of the Civil Hospital and should be relocated so that the land will be free for the use of the Civil Hospital,” the pressure group quoting Dr. Lakiang stated.
During the discussion with the members of the FKJGP, the Medical Superintendent informed them there was an assurance that after the relocation of the office of the BDO Wapung C&RD Block which is currently operating in Khliehriat, the land will be handed over to the Civil Hospital for renovation, however this has not yet materialised.
The union has assured that in collaboration with the authorities of the hospital they will look into these shortcomings of the hospital so that it will be a blessing to the people of the area.
