Editor,
I do not want to express here in so many words but enough to say that the present MDA under the leadership of Conrad Sangma is the copycat of the former Congress-led government by wastefully spending public funds for non-essential and useless expenses like organising series of festivals like Cherry Blossom Festival, Umngot River Festival, Megong Festival, Winter Tales and then series of festivals in districts, all at the expense of public exchequer for what useful purpose if not for making hay while the sun shines or for pocketing by those responsible for organising those festivals, by some bureaucrats and ministers.
Are these festivals meant for celebrating the Meghalaya statehood’s golden jubilee or are these mere camouflages for ulterior motives. What about spending precious funds towards committed liabilities like the salaries of teachers, pending arrears of government employees and pensioners, spending for poor orphans and poor people impacted by the Covid-19 and why not for the cause of raising up education which is at present in shambles in our State.
Are we aware that the present status of our State is that the gap between the haves and the have-nots is too wide to bridge. Do we know or not that in Meghalaya the rich become filthy rich while the poor become poorer and that the wealth concentrates only in the hands of a few? Will there be a revolution one day?
