Based on source information, the East Khasi Hills Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) conducted a raid in the slum area of Sweepers Lane and apprehended a 26-year-old woman.
The woman, whose name was not revealed by police, is allegedly the one who had been caught on camera selling drugs in broad daylight at Bimola Junction in the city recently.
On searching the house of the accused, 92 vials of heroin weighing 99.21 grammes were found and seized along with 51 empty vials, 13 soap cases used to pack heroin, a mobile phone and Aadhaar card. A case against her has been registered at Sadar police station.
Police are on the lookout for other drug suppliers in the area, a press release stated today.
Meanwhile, opposition legislator and North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum has strongly condemned the incident of drugs being sold openly.
He said that the state government should take responsibility for such incidents and strengthen the police department and make use of new strategies to nab the culprits.
He suggested that patrolling of police personnel in civilian dress should be enhanced and new strategies in place to trap the culprits and get quicker results.
