Meghalaya police arrested three persons for their involvement in announcing the regrouping of the Garo National Liberation Army Re-group (GNLA-R).
The accused identified as Sengsrang N Marak, Thosengcheba A Sangma and Chijang A. Sangma were arrested by the district police teams of West Garo Hills and North Garo Hills.
According to a press release from the West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, the arrested persons revealed that they have created the Facebook account “Goera Pantora” and also uploaded the press release of the GNLA-R on that account.
It may be mentioned that a press release went viral on social media that the GNLA was reformed on February 7. It was signed by one Goera Pantora Sangma, who claims to be the chairman of the newly named GNLA-Regroup.
Police said incriminating articles, mobile phones and laptop were also seized from their possession, which included a Realme C11 mobile phone along with one Jio SIM card, a Lenevo Ideapad Laptop, a Nokia keypad mobile phone along with an Airtel SIM card, a Samsung Galaxy J4 mobile phone along with two Jio SIM cards, a Jio Bharat keypad mobile phone, three Airtel SIM Cards and one Vodafone SIM card, a booklet containing 82 pamphlets, and six All Garo Hills Merchants Association (AGHMA) pamphlets.
Further, the police have urged people to come forward with any information about any other members of the GNLA-R. “Their identity shall be kept secret and suitable reward shall be given,” the SP added.
