The Federation of All School Teacher of Meghalaya (FASTOM) will hold a general public meeting at the State Central Library premises on Monday from 11am.
Speaking at a press conference. FASTOM president Mayborn Lyngdoh said that the meeting has been called for because the government has not met the group’s demands.
The teachers want a pay hike for school teachers at all levels and a 5 percent increment every year. Lyngdoh said that the federation has discovered that the Education Department has yet to draft a proposal to this effect to the Finance Department.
Lyngdoh invitede all ad hoc teachers from lower primary, upper primary, secondary and higher secondary schools from across the state to participate in the meeting.
The slogan for this meeting is ‘equal pay for equal work’.
Lyngdoh said that ad hoc teachers have not received a pay hike since 2016. The government has made positive noises about FASTOM’s demands in the past but no concrete action has been taken, he added.
