The ICAR – Krishi Vigyan Kendra organised day long training programme on Integrated Fish Farming System with special reference to backyard poultry farming for farmers of Ri Bhoi district today.
Around 30 farmers from the village were present at the event.
Bankitkupar Mukhim SMS Fishery Science gave a brief description of poultry breed, Vanaraja which is a dual purpose poultry birds that perform better than local poultry in terms of egg production and weight gain. He also informed the farmers that the breed can be reared together with local poultry in backyard system.
Mukhim highlighted on how farmers can gain maximum benefits through integrated fish farming by incorporating different kinds of livestock and crop with fisheries, which he say, will minimise the cost of production and maximise profit.
He also gave an elaborate lecture how to manage their ponds especially when fish diseases occur.
During that programme, 600 improved poultry breed Vanaraja along with 10 Lumsniang piglets were distributed to the farmers.
Mightystar Lyngdoh Deputy Project Manager of Agriculture Technology Management Agency, Nongpoh Ri Bhoi was also present.
