Voice of the People Party (VPP) MLA Heaving Stone Kharpran from Mawryngkneng has urged the Meghalaya government to take serious note of the mysterious death of Ribokson Dkhar Sawian, a serving member of the Meghalaya Home Guards.
Sawian (34) was found dead in North Guwahati last week while there for training.
According to Kharpran, a thorough investigation should be conducted and those responsible should be punished.
“I believe that the government will take this matter seriously and there should be a thorough investigation and information should be divulged as it has occurred and the guilty should be punished,” he said.
Sawian’s family has rejected the Assam police’s claim that he died of a heart attack, citing that he was in excellent health. The family finds it unlikely that Sawian would have traveled far from the camp without his mobile phone, money, or proper clothing, as he was only wearing shorts and a t-shirt, intending to take a bath.
The Home Guard went missing from the National Disaster Response Force training camp between 6:30pm and 6:45pm on April 7. His body was found on the roadside in Gauripur near a dhaba around 9:30pm. Sawian’s brother Rolan filed an FIR with the North Guwahati police, stating that the death was unnatural and urging authorities to investigate further.
