The Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB), under the Forests and Environment Department, has directed Om Om Coke to halt all construction activities related to the establishment of a coke factory at Thlukuru Wah Tongtiang, East Jaintia Hills.
The MSPCB took this action after receiving a letter detailing the withdrawal of a no-objection certificate (NOC) that had been issued by the Dolloi of Jowai Elaka and Waheh Shnong of Mukhep.
This decision comes in response to a complaint filed by the Dorbar Shnong Wapungskur, which raised objections against the establishment of the coke plant within the jurisdiction of Wapungskur village.
The Dorbar Shnong Wapungskur had demanded the immediate revocation and cancellation of the consent to establish (CTE) and any related documents/licences granted to Om Om Coke for setting up a coke manufacturing unit at Thlukuru.
