The Hill Farmers Union (HFU), West Khasi Hills district, in collaboration with the District Horticulture Officer, celebrated the fifth Meghalaya Farmers’ Day today under the theme “The Farmer is the Provider of Food.”
Nongstoiñ MLA Gabriel Wahlang who attended the celebration expressed his commitment to work with the departmental officials to enhance the agricultural sector in the district.
He encouraged discussions on various agricultural schemes while urging officers to provide support and encouraged farmers to cooperate with the officials while avoiding the misuse of schemes.
HFU president Commander Shangplaing emphasised the vital role of farmers in society, highlighting that food is an essential element of life. He called on the state government to prioritise agriculture alongside other sectors to ensure the overall growth and development of the state.
Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills Garod LSN Dykes stressed the importance of exposure trips for departmental officials within the state. He also urged the departments to maintain baseline records and conduct thorough surveys.
Awards were distributed to the farmers on the occasion.
