A resident of Kyndong Wahlang, Overwell Lyngdoh, has lodged an FIR at Sohiong Police Outpost against one Disiolin Khasain, who is a Public Distribution System dealer in the village.
Speaking to Highland Post, Lyngdoh alleged that the PDS dealer has been charging Rs 30 and deducting a kilogramme of rice from every ration card holder who collected their allotment for May and June last week.
The central government had announced, as part of its pandemic alleviation measures, that people under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) will be entitled to 5kg of rice per head for May and June free of cost.
However, Khasain allegedly extorted money and deducted 1kg of rice from 100 village card holders. She also supposedly failed to use the electronic point of sale (EPOS) machine while distributing the ration, which is mandated by the Supply Department.
When informed, the Rangbah Shnong, SS Nongbri, reportedly told Lyngdoh that the extra charge and deduction of rice was a matter that had been decided on by the Dorbar.
“These people have illegally collected more than Rs 2,500 and almost deducted 100kg of rice from all the cardholders,” Lyngdoh alleged. “I want justice and I want the dealer and those defending her to be punished as per the law so that these kinds of extortion activities will be prevented in the future.”
