The State government has formed an expert committee to examine nine bills passed by the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Councils (KHADC) and one passed by Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Councils (JHADC) which are yet to get assent from the Governor.
According to official sources, the commissioner and secretary of the District Council Affairs Department is the chairman of the expert committee.
The members of the committee comprise officials of both KHADC and JHADC and Law Department.
The committee will examine the bills and sort out all contentious issues before forwarding the bills to the Governor for his approval.
Among the nine bills passed by KHADC which will be examined by the committee, one of them is the Khasi Social Custom of Clan Administration Bill 2022.
Another is the Establishment, Management and Control of Markets (Second Amendment) Regulation Bill 2021.
Other bills include those related to appointment and succession of chiefs of various Himas.
The bill passed by JHADC which will be examined by the expert committee is the Trading By Non-Tribals (First Amendment) Rules 2023.
